Competition
Real events. Real athletes. A real pathway.
From the sand at Laguna Beach to a future international tour, GSF is building an entertainment-forward competition structure that pays professionals fairly, opens doors for youth, and develops the standards a world-class sport deserves.

GSF debuts at The VIC
The Federation's soft launch at the Victoria Skimboards Championships in Laguna Beach introduced GSF to the international skimboarding community for the first time. The Federation was announced live on the VIC broadcast, and GSF spent both days on the sand with athletes, families, industry representatives and organizers from around the world.
- The Federation announced live during the VIC broadcast
- GSF and its website introduced in person to leaders of the skim industry
- Conversations with international athletes, professionals, brands and families
- The first athletes signed up for the Global Athlete Map
What The VIC Confirmed
The sport wants a federation
Every conversation on the sand pointed the same direction: athletes, families and brands want international recognition, real competition standards, and a pathway that pays professionals and opens doors for youth.
- Greater international recognition for skimboarding
- A long-term pathway toward major multi-sport recognition
- Expanded athlete support and compensation
- Federation roles for athletes and community leaders
- A worldwide athlete network, built beach by beach

Competition Vision
The New GSF Event Format
GSF events are designed as entertainment, not just brackets. Youth athletes compete alongside scheduled professional exhibitions, interviews, autograph sessions, photography and public appearances, so every event grows the sport while it crowns its winners.
Youth at the center
Young athletes compete on the same sand and the same stage as the professionals they look up to, turning every event into a recruitment engine for the next generation.
Professionals as ambassadors
Scheduled pro exhibitions, interviews, autograph sessions, photography and public appearances attract spectators, increase public interest and inspire new participants.
Grown for the whole sport
Professional competition at GSF events is conducted to further the Federation's charitable and educational purposes and to promote the development of the sport as a whole, supporting the growth of amateur skimboarding.
Professional Athlete Pay Program
Paid for the whole job, not only the podium
Professional skimboarders carry the sport far beyond their contest runs. The GSF Professional Athlete Pay Program is built to compensate them fairly for everything they contribute to an event.
- Appearances and public engagements
- Performances and exhibitions
- Media obligations and interviews
- Mentoring young athletes
- Promotional work for the sport
Compensation reflects the full contribution an athlete makes, not only contest results.
Why it matters
Entertainment builds
the amateur base
When professionals show up, spectators show up. When spectators show up, sponsors, media and municipalities follow, and a young athlete in the crowd sees a future in the sport. That is the flywheel the New GSF Event Format is engineered to spin: pro visibility funding youth opportunity, event after event.
International Tour Development
A tour built for the world In Development
GSF is developing an international competition tour with approximately half of its events in the United States and half held internationally, adding two new international destinations each year as the tour grows.
Each new destination means new athletes, new organizers and a stronger case for skimboarding as a truly international sport. Tour development runs hand in hand with our work supporting national skimboarding organizations around the world.
Athlete Pathway
From the first lesson
to the world stage
Every GSF program feeds one pathway: youth and grassroots skimboarding leading to national teams, international championships and elite competition.
Local
A first lesson, a school program, a beach clinic and local competition at the beach where it all starts.
National
National competition and national team development through recognized national skimboarding organizations.
Continental
International championships that bring national programs together across regions and continents.
World
Elite competition, with athletes representing their countries at the highest levels of the sport.
Unified Rules and Competition Standards
Standards worth
competing under Development Underway
A serious international sport needs consistent standards. Work is now underway on a comprehensive GSF unified rules and competition standards framework covering rules, judging, competition formats, safety practices and athlete qualification. We are building it openly, and each standard will be published as it is adopted.
The Federation has begun by reviewing the rule systems of established international sport organizations as structural models, then identifying the skimboarding-specific questions those models do not answer. Those questions will be worked through in collaboration with athletes, judges, event organizers, tours and industry leaders rather than decided behind closed doors.
- Internationally consistent competition rules
- Transparent judging standards and criteria
- Defined competition formats
- Safety practices for athletes and events
- Athlete qualification systems
Judge Development
Progressive judging levels
GSF is building a judging pathway that grows with the sport, from a first education workshop to the head-judge chair at an international event.
Entry-Level Education
Judging criteria, technical materials and official development workshops for new judges.
Practical Judging
Practical judging opportunities at events, building real scoring experience.
International Qualification
International opportunities based on qualification and experience as standards are adopted.
Head-Judge Qualification
The senior officiating standard for GSF-sanctioned international competition.
Membership alone does not constitute GSF Judge Certification. Certification requirements will be established separately.
Rankings
GSF Athlete Rankings In Development
World rankings are part of the competition structure GSF is building. As sanctioned events and consistent judging standards come online, results will feed a future GSF athlete ranking system.
Built on sanctioned results
Rankings will draw on results from GSF-sanctioned competition, scored under the consistent rules and judging standards now in development, so a ranking means the same thing everywhere in the world.
Open to Athlete Members
Athlete Members will be eligible for future GSF rankings, subject to applicable competition rules, as part of the athlete development pathway from grassroots to elite competition.
